Educators Credit Union Celebrates 10 Saver’s Sweepstakes Winners

Educators Credit Union and The Wisconsin Credit Union League celebrated ten Saver’s Sweepstakes winners on Oct. 18, 2018. The Educators Credit Union members were part of the first-ever Saver’s Sweepstakes drawing, and two of them went home with $5,000 grand prizes.

Five of the ten Educators Credit Union winners, Educators Credit Union staff, The Wisconsin Credit Union League staff, Educators Credit Union Vice Chair Cheryl Kothe, Wisconsin State Senator Van Waangard, and Assistant Deputy Secretary at the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions Greg Reiman came together to celebrate the inaugural winners at Educators’ Home Office in Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this account and help our members start building their savings,” said Educators Credit Union CEO and President Linda Hoover.”

After a short introduction, the winners were given their checks and honored individually. Some winners announced their plans for their money as they came to the podium.

“This is going back into my savings,” said one of the two grand prize winners, Cindy Tenuta.

Other winners talked about fixing household appliances, doubling down and putting the money into their Saver’s Sweepstakes accounts, or spending it on vacation. One of the winners wasn’t even planning on opening her Saver’s Sweepstakes account until she went into an Educators Credit Union branch with her friend.

“I was listening to the gentleman set up my friend’s account, and I thought, ‘Well, that’s smart,’” said $100 winner and 20-year Educators Credit Union member Doris Hayes. “We set it up there, and now the money goes into the account automatically each month.”

The Saver’s Sweepstakes is a brand new prize-based savings account created by The Wisconsin Credit Union League with help from several credit unions across the state. Members earn entries into the sweepstakes for every $25 saved each month. They can receive up to six entries monthly. Those entries go towards a $100 monthly drawing, $1,000 quarterly drawing and the $5,000 grand prize drawing.

While the Saver’s Sweepstakes is special because members can win for saving, it was created to help credit union members develop good saving habits.

“Over a very short period of time, members of 14 Wisconsin credit unions saved over $180,000 tied to the Saver’s Sweepstakes program,” said The Wisconsin Credit Union League CEO and President Brett Thompson. “That all helps (the members) improve their financial condition.”

The next group of winners will be picked on Nov. 15. For full entry rules and information, visit www.ecu.com/savers.

  • Donated more than $400,000 to nearly 100 local charitable organizations.
  • Staff volunteered more than 1,000 hours at local organizations.
  • Supplied more than 100 different volunteers at Junior Achievement of Wisconsin’s BizTown and Finance Park programs.
  • Helped more than 700 MPS students on the path to getting their driver’s license.
  • Saved more than 1,400 members money on buying or leasing a new vehicle.
  • Sponsored or supported 288 community events.

Educators Credit Union Members Are Getting Rewarded!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Educators Credit Union Loyalty Pay Back season! In 2018, Educators Credit Union is putting a total of $3.1 million into our members’ accounts based on their loyalty.

Educators Credit Union member-owners are the reason we can make a difference in their lives, their families lives, and the lives of their friends and neighbors. Their investment empowers us to:

  • Help members borrow and save money at competitive and fair rates.
  • Donate time and money to nearly 100 local charitable organizations.
  • Teach thousands of area students crucial financial literacy lessons to prepare them for adulthood.
  • Support and help more than 275 local events in our 11-county service area.
  • And so much more!

There is no chance Educators Credit Union could make the impact we do without our members. Every service they use and commit to helps us achieve more in the places where we live and work.

To thank our members for their continued support, the 2018 Loyalty Pay Back Reward will be awarded based on the number of services they use. Payouts will be divided into three groups: member-owners using three to five qualified services, member-owners using five to six qualified services, and member-owners using seven or more qualified services. Qualified services are:

  • Auto Loan or Lease3
  • Business Checking Account4
  • Business Credit Card4
  • Business Line of Credit4
  • Checking Debit Card2
  • Credit Card2
  • Direct Deposit2
  • eStatements2
  • First Mortgage Home Loan3
  • Home Equity Loan3
  • Individual Retirement Account (IRA)3
  • Investment Services Account3
  • Mobile Banking2

Members have until Nov. 30 to add services to their account ahead of Loyalty Pay Back. Educators Credit Union members can use Online Banking, stop in at a branch or call 262.886.5900 to add a new service.

1To qualify, members must be in good standing. Member’s accounts cannot be in the negative and loan payments cannot be past due or have charged off balances. Each service will only be counted once. For example: if a member has an account with multiple share certificates, those certificates would be counted as ONE qualified service. Reward is available for up to two account numbers per primary member.
2Service must have active use with at least one posted transaction in November. Using the Educators Mobile Banking app qualifies as Mobile Banking.
3Loan and deposit accounts must have a balance greater than zero on Nov. 30 to qualify. The Rapid Relief Loan, Fresh Start Loan and Credit Rebuilder Loan do not qualify for the reward.
4Business members can only qualify for top tier. For a business to qualify for the Loyalty Pay Back Reward, they must have a business checking, business line of credit and a business credit card with Educators. They have to be open and at least two services have to be active in the month of November.

Educators Credit Union makes bears to donate to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin

On Monday, Oct. 8, Educators Credit Union staff stuffed nearly 600 Build-A-Bear Workshop bear cubs to donate to local charitable organizations.

More than 500 Educators Credit Union employees met at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport Hotel for Now to Wow, an annual gathering where the organization provides crucial training and team building opportunities.

As the 2018 event was wrapping up, event organizers announced a big surprise: Educators Credit Union would be making bears! Not only were they making bears, but most of the bears made would be donated to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

“We are always looking for ways the credit union can help our communities,” said Educators Credit Union CEO Linda Hoover. “Last year, we built 50 bikes for area children. This year, we’re giving hundreds of bears to sick kids so that they can have something to love and hug while in the hospital.”

Each Educators Credit Union employee was given their own bear cub and Build-A-Bear staff took the stage to help everyone in the room make a furry friend with love. After warming the bear’s heart, putting the heart in the bear, pulling on a bear cub-sized Educators t-shirt and filling out the birth certificate, Build-A-Bear staff completed a quality assurance check on every furry friend. Once the bears met Build-A-Bear’s expectations, they were prepped to be shipped out to their new homes.

“It was an amazing and heartwarming opportunity,” said Educators employee Madeline Jimenez. “We got to be part of something that will make so many kids happy. It’s a great feeling.”

In total, Educators Credit Union purchased 600 bears from Build-A-Bear. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin will take as many bears as they need for their patients and the rest will be given to other local children’s charities ahead of the holidays.
